The SWUFE-UD Institute of Data Science at Southwestern University of Finance and Economics is a collaborative Institute approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education (License No.: MOE51USA02DNR20191972N) and jointly established by Southwestern University of Finance and Economics and the University of Delaware. The Institute offers three undergraduate programs: Information Management and Information System, Financial Mathematics, and Logistics Management.


As the only Chinese-foreign joint educational institute that specializes in data science, the Institute has established an innovative cooperative education model. The Institute not only adopts the approach of local internationalization but also has an internationalized curricula and distinguished faculty from two institutions. The SWUFE-UD Institute of Data Science aims to nurture interdisciplinary talents in the new era with great national spirit, global competency, a solid theoretical foundation in data science, and a broad vision of data application.


The Institute annually enrolls 180 candidates. The 4-year program is conducted at the Liulin Campus of SWUFE, and the Institute uses the 4+0 education model with dual enrollment and dual degrees, so students who meet the requirements of both universities are awarded degrees from both institutions without going abroad. SWUFE aims to build new liberal arts programs and take the lead in developing programs in new finance and economics to create new advantages. With this strategy, the Institute will deepen the interdisciplinary integration of the economics and management and the science and engineering disciplines. It brings together the best educational resources of SWUFE and UD, actively building an internationalized innovation demonstration zone of first-class undergraduate programs and striving to become a national first-class and leading joint educational institute in western China.


Brief introduction of Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE)

            


Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) is a national key university under the direct administration of the Chinese Ministry of Education. It is also a member university of Project 211 and the 985 Innovative Platforms for Key Disciplines Project and is listed in the first round of China’s Double First Class University Plan.


SWUFE is located in Chengdu, a famous historical and cultural city, known as the “Land of Abundance.” The city is the economic engine for the development of western China and the fourth-largest aviation hub in China.


SWUFE has a number of teaching and research institutions, such as the National Economic Foundation Training Base, Base of the Training Plan 2.0 for Cultivating Top-notch Students of Basic Disciplines, International Organization Talent Training Innovative Practice Project, Survey and Research Center for China Household Finance, Jiaozi International Financial Innovation Institute, and Institute of Chinese Financial Studies of SWUFE, which is listed as a Key Research Institute of Humanities and Social Science in University of the Ministry of Education.


SWUFE has been recognized for developing a national pool of financial talent specializing in economics, management, and finance. SWUFE’s Economic and Business, General Theory of Social Science, and Engineering disciplines entered the top 1% of ESI (Essential Science Indicators). SWUFE’s Faculty of Business Administration has been accredited by EQUIS since 2014 and by CAMEA since 2015. SWUFE’s School of Accounting received its initial AACSB Business and Accounting accreditation in 2018. In the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2021, SWUFE ranked among top 600, the highest of the finance and economics universities in China.


SWUFE has implemented a strategy of extensive opening up and has established substantial cooperation and two-way exchanges with more than 200 well-known universities, research institutions, and enterprises in more than 40 countries and regions. It has also established a strong system of overseas study and joint training programs to broaden the channel for cultivating international talents.


Brief introduction of the University of Delaware (UD)

           


The University of Delaware (UD), founded in 1743, is one of the oldest first-class public research universities in the United States. It is located in Newark, Delaware, about 2 hours’ drive from Washington D.C. and New York City. As a well-known “Public Ivy” school, the University of Delaware enjoys an excellent reputation in national and international academia and was ranked 40th among national public universities by the U.S. News & World Report in 2021.


The University of Delaware’s Management Information Systems program ranked 24th out of 145, Finance & Financial Management ranked 16th out of 389, and Business Administration & Management ranked 25th out of 744 according to the latest College Factual ranking in 2020.


The University of Delaware has a strong faculty with a number of nationally renowned writers, scientists, and artists, including Nobel and Fulbright prize scholars and members of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and U.S. National Academy of Sciences. Notable alumni include Joe Biden, the 46th President of the United States; Nobel Prize-winning microbiologist Daniel Nathans; Nobel Prize-winning organic chemist Richard F. Heck; Thomas McKean, George Read, and James Smith, three signers of the U.S. Declaration of Independence; and Xing Wang, the founder and CEO of Meituan.com in China.
