To help students at our Institute better understand the situation of studying abroad and employment, and to plan their careers more effectively, SWUFE-UD Institute of Data Science at Southwestern University of Finance and Economics held three online alumni sharing sessions on May 8th, May 22nd, and June 1st respectively. Three outstanding alumni from SWUFE and University of Delaware were invited to share their personal experiences and insights on studying abroad, internships, and job search experience, and to answer questions from the students. Students who participated expressed that they had gained a lot from this talk series.
On May 8th, Nancy Yu, who holds a dual Bachelor's degree in Finance from SWUFE and UD, and a Master's degree in management from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business, and is currently a senior executive at J.P. Morgan, shared her study abroad, internships and work experience in the United States. She also provided detailed and helpful answers to the questions raised by students.
On May 22nd, Peiyu Wang, who holds a dual Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems from SWUFE and UD, and a Master's degree in Data Analytics from George Washington University, and is currently a Java Engineer at VMware, shared her personal experience. Peiyu elaborated on her experience at UD and her career development path. She also provided suggestions for students' study abroad plans based on her personal experience and introduced solutions to problems that may arise during the study abroad experience.
On June 1st, Yafei Ou, who holds a dual Bachelor's degree in Finance from SWUFE and UD, and a Master's degree in Enterprise Risk Management from Carey Business School at Johns Hopkins University, and has worked at Morgan Stanley, is currently working at Beijing UBS Securities Co., Ltd. Yafei shared his work experience both in the United States and China. He encouraged students to step out of their comfort zones, actively seek job opportunities, and find a balance between life and work. Yafei answered questions enthusiastically and humorously, providing many suggestions on studying abroad to students.
The series of Alumni Talks was successfully held this semester, not only helping students at our Institute understand the life of studying abroad but also allowing them to have a clearer study and career plan while enhancing communication and connections with SWUFE-UD alumni. Our Institute will continue to invite remarkable alumni to share their perspectives, to help students better understand the situation of studying abroad, internships, and employment, and to construct personalized career plans earlier.
