In order to enhance freshmen’s understanding of the university's history and to help students learn currency culture, the SWUFE-UD Institute of Data Science arranged for students from three different majors to visit the University History Museum and the Monetary and Financial Museum in October.
In the University History Museum, the students visited six exhibition halls in turn, including exhibition halls explaining the early history of our university and a special exhibition on earthquake relief efforts during the Sichuan earthquake in 2008. The rich historical and precious documents and the vivid pictures of campus life were like a time capsule for telling the painstaking history of SWUFE from generation to generation. The experience of visiting the museum enabled students to gain a deep understanding of the university’s culture, geography, education, scientific research and diplomacy, as well as the achievements and deeds of various individuals throughout our history.
In the Monetary and Financial Museum, the students actively explored the history behind money and gained an appreciation for the cultural deposits of SWUFE. In the exhibition hall of Money and Stock and Securities, the museum curator introduced the evolution of money from seashells 4,000 years ago to copper coins and silver coins, and then to paper money. The students toured the museum’s collections of different coin types from the Qin, Han, Tang, Song, Ming and Qing dynasties. The display of coins not only records the history of China’s currency development , but is also evidence of the tortuous course of China’s economic and financial development.
By taking part in this activity, students gained a deeper understanding SWUFE’s spirit of “entrepreneurial character and unremitting endeavours to address the needs of the people and society”, thus strengthening their determination to strive for the development of the nation’s economy.
